Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Transfusion-Free Medicine — Your choice is what matters most.

For those who feel uncomfortable sharing blood through transfusions or who hold personal or religious convictions against receiving blood, there is the option of transfusion-free or "bloodless medicine." "Bloodless" means medical or surgical treatment without the use of banked (stored) allogenic blood or major blood components. Blood loss often occurs during surgery. A bloodless program endeavors to minimize blood loss by utilizing special blood conservation methods.

A highly trained staff of physicians and nurses at Brotman Medical Center employs such methods so that patients may depend on their own blood supply. Among procedures now performed without the use of blood transfusions are:

    Open Heart Surgery
  • Cancer Treatment Surgery
  • Orthopedic Surgery including total hip and knee replacement
  • Gynecological and Urological Surgeries
  • Vascular Surgery
